My Family Reunion
By Big Al
A family reunion…That's exactly what it feels like when we go to the
Mr. Olympia or the Arnold Classic. The ABCs are like little family
BBQs, and the big shows are the reunions. At the local ABCs I get to
see my brothers that live close by, but at the Mr. O I got to see most
of my family. It's funny because as soon as I get to the airport
someone will say, “You guys havin The Cage?” It's a great feeling to
know everyone loves The Cage.
I flew Southwest, and if you have ever flown with them, you know it's
everyone- for-themselves seating. I was at the end of the line to
board, and I saw that a couple had saved me a seat next to them. They
were just a couple that loved the sport and saved me a seat because I
was a bodybuilder, so that made me like family to them. I was on the
same plane with J-dawg and we ran into Ox at baggage claim. We shared a
cab to the hotel, and yes it was a very nice room. J and I walked over
to the expo to see if the guys needed any help putting the finishing
touches on The Cage, but they had it done and were ready to roll. So, I
got to go with some close friends to have a nice meal to start off the
madness.
On Friday, Wrath, G Diesel and I did an old school chest workout, and
we had a blast. I did get a little upset during the deadlift because
they seemed to not be getting along and I wanted us to be a team, not
enemies. I guess it was more for hype and not real anger. No matter
what The Cage is just the best place to be. You get to see NickW
incline 600+lb. He is a super nice guy and is just all around strong as
hell. Then you get to see Tiny Meeker, who is also a super nice guy,
bench whatever you put on the bar. I really do think he can bench
whatever he wants. Benching 800lb for reps is just insane. Then you get
to see Kuclo, House, Ox, Rage and Rev8Ball doing seminars on what they
know best. Where else can you get that much knowledge in one place, all
for free?
I got to go see pre-judging and the finals of the Mr.O contest. I am a
fan of this sport no matter what. I get as excited to see these guys on
stage now as I did 10 years ago. It's funny now because I have been on
stage at nationals with several of the guys that were standing on the
Olympia stage.
To sum up my weekend all I can say is Animal is a stand up company.
They took great care of me, and I had a blast hanging out with my
family, eating, working and training. I can't wait until next time.
