How To Motivate The People
by Machine
People today seem content leaving things behind for someone else to
handle. In the not too distant past, when you couldn't find out
everything about everything just by clicking a mouse, people were
imbued with a sense of urgency. People had a sense that they had to do
things right away, because if they didn't, who would? People didn't
simply leave things for others to accomplish. Today, there seems to be
this inherent notion deeply rooted in the minds of men and women
everywhere that things just work out through some combination of events
that are entirely out of their control.
For all of our scientific advancements, the improved and increased
availability of modern education and the advent of computer systems
which are capable of equalizing our varied mental deficiencies
instantly, we haven't learned very much at all. I have tried, in my own
way, to live in a way more reminiscent of a time when men took nothing
for granted. When I take on a job or project, I cannot afford to assume
that someone else has thought of everything necessary to make that
particular evolution as good as possible. I cannot take for granted
that systems are in place that will render the desired effect or impact
as efficiently and successfully as a brand new approach might.
When we allow the fire in our hearts and minds to burn out, we allow
our personal and our collective responsibilities become somebody else's
problem. That is when things get missed. If we resign ourselves to the
belief that it doesn't matter whether or not we litter, we will soon be
living in a filthy community. If we resign ourselves to the belief that
our current level of education is sufficient, we will soon be a nation
of inferior minds. If we resign ourselves to the belief that our
actions do not weigh heavily upon our brothers and sisters, we will
soon be living in a cold, hard world, totally devoid of compassion and
empathy.
For argument's sake, why don't we proceed with our lives in a manner
befitting individuals who are cognizant of the notion that there is
currently no better way in existence, so we must discover one? There is
no system in place that was implemented by some think tank to benefit
modern society, so we must develop our own methods to resolve our own
problems. In short, there isn't sufficient time remaining on the clock
for us to merely sit back and assume that someone else has everything
all worked out for us.
Therefore, it is our moral imperative to develop new methods of
elevating our people to heights they have yet to realize. It's funny
how people pop up on numerous discussion forums and talk about
motivation as if they have some concept of what that word really means.
People who have a well-developed understanding of the concept of
motivation are not the people posting about it on the forums. They are
too busy leading by example, challenging their contemporaries, building
a better mousetrap, finding a way over, under, around or through the
problems and issues that they are confronted with every day.
Being born in a country that is relatively safe, has adequate food and
services and arguably offers the best opportunities for advancement of
any modern nation in the world, then detailing your conceptual
understanding of motivation on a discussion forum, then going on about
how motivated you are everyday, then acting as a de facto motivational
speaker to others born into the same ease of existence as yourself, is
kind of pathetically uninspiring in its own way.
I have always believed that a person's very existence should be
motivational enough for them to accomplish whatever they wish. I
believe in people's innate ability to inspire others by the magnitude
of their actions. I also value the written word as a medium of
expression which can often loosen the rigid ties of societal
expectation and judgment, and free us to dream big. However, before we
go around on our soap boxes trying to light a fire under people's
asses, we had better make certain that we are living in a manner which
is both motivating and inspiring, especially in absolute silence.
This way, when we open our mouths to speak our two cents will be worth
decidedly more than the next man's. Let's face it… Nothing is as
uninspiring as some wet-behind-the-ears, greenhorn, spoon-fed jackass
going on about motivation when he hasn't been walking upright long
enough to know what the fuck he is talking about. I say let's all work
on living right and cleaning up our own backyards. Then we can turn our
attention to edifying the world without intelligent pros concerning
motivation.
