Genetics: Abilities and predispositions passed on from parent to child. Heredity. Often the bottom line in determining success in competitive bodybuilding. This is where it all begins.

Giant Set: The combination of three or more exercises for a particular bodypart, with sets performed back to back to back without rest.

Ginger Root Extract: Derived from the root of the herb zingiber officionale, which grows widely in southwest India. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. As an antioxidant, it may help boost immunity and relieve the symptoms of colds and flu. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it useful in treating pain and inflammation caused by arthritis, and it is effective in treating muscle pain as well. Ginger root is also used to help treat stomach upset and nausea.

Ginseng: Strengthens the adrenal and reproductive glands.  Enhances immune function, stimulates appetite.  Beneficial for fatigue because it spares glycogen and increases the use of fatty acids as an energy source. 

Glucosamine: A molecular building block used to aid body builders and athletes with joint pain by helping to repair and lubricate the cartilage around damaged joints. It has been proven effective in easing osteoarthritis pain, aids in rehabilitating cartilage, renewing synovial fluid, and repairing joints that have been damaged.

Glutamic Acid: Non-essential amino acid. Important in the metabolism of sugars and fats. Helps in the detoxification of ammonia and can be converted to the conditionally essential amino acid glutamine.

Glutamine: Conditionally essential amino acid. Most abundant free amino acid in the muscles. Helps to build and maintain muscle. Enhances antioxidant protection and is needed to sustain proper brain function and mental activity.

Glutes: Gluteus maximus. Butt muscles. Source of much power when squatting.

Glycemic Index: Ranking system which rates the speed of carbohydrate absorption.

Glycemic Load: Blood sugar status taking into consideration both the Glycemic Index and total carbohydrates per serving of a particular food.

Glycine: Non-essential amino acid. Improves glycogen storage, increases endogenous creatine levels through increasing creatine synthesis. Also plays a key role in neurotransmitter release.

Glycogen: The primary carbohydrate stored in muscle tissue. It is depleted during training and needs to be replenished immediately post-workout.

Grapeseed Extract: A natural plant substance that has a concentrated source of anti-oxidants called OPCs. These antioxidants help protect cells from free radical damage and promote healthy circulation. It is one of the few anti-oxidants that can penetrate the blood brain barrier to help protect the brain and nerve tissue.

Green Tea Extract: A power antioxidant, that contains high levels of polyphenols and EGCG.

Guns: Well developed biceps, triceps and forearms. Synonyms: Arms, Pipes, Cannons, Pythons.

Gynecomastia: The development of mal breast tissue, aka “Bitch Tits”.
